Flu Vaccine for Everyone: Where is the Evidence?

Written by and posted with permission of Dr. Bruce West -- April 2016 issue of Health Alert p 6-7

There is little to no evidence, dating back to the first studies in 1944, that supports the hypothesis that flu vaccine is effective and safe. The annual flu vaccine program is, without a doubt, a yearly money-making ritual.

When positive results failed to be demonstrated, all the way back to 1944, medical experts felt the reason was that the effort was not strong enough -- not enough people were regularly injected with vaccine. Hence the yearly ritual began -- with all the hoopla and fear of a real epidemic -- all in an effort to get everyone vaccinated.

But as anyone can see from the history of flu vaccine, its failure had nothing to do with a weak effort to vaccinate everyone. Rather the whole thing was simply a failure, then a scam. Tom Jefferson, head of the Vaccine Field Group at the Cochrane Database Collaboration (the world's leading producer of evidence-based medical reviews) was interviewed in an article in The Atlantic. Jefferson is the expert of experts and he voiced serious reservations about the data supporting influenza vaccine recommendations, stating that "the vast majority of the studies [are] deeply flawed. Rubbish is not a scientific term, but I think it's the term that applies [to flu vaccine studies]."

What the Evidence Really Shows

According to a 2012 Cochrane review, studies funded by the makers of the vaccines were published in the more prestigious medical journals while publicly funded and better studies, which were much less likely to report conclusions that were favorable about vaccines, were brushed aside. And at the time, Cochrane reported that reliable evidence on flu vaccine was thin, but there was evidence that within industry-funded studies there was widespread manipulation of conclusions and spurious notoriety of the studies.

In 2014 another Cochrane review of all studies examining the use of flu vaccine found that vaccination with flu vaccine shows no appreciable effect on working days lost or hospitalization. Here is what they discovered:

1944: It all began in 1944 when an early flu vaccine was studied by the military and found to decrease episodes of illness with a temperature of more than 99 degrees. Yet in the end, the results showed that the effects of this first flu vaccine produced no changes -- "the incidence of disease was no different in vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals."

So by 1944 the first flu vaccine had already been developed, but there was no evidence that it prevented serious flu-related problems. Nonetheless, the vaccine was released to the general public for use against the flu.

1957: In 1957 a new "pandemic" hit -- the Asian flu. It would eventually cause between 1 and 2 million deaths worldwide. Here in the U.S. a vaccine was manufactured and millions of doses were administered to American citizens as protection from the Asian flu pandemic. The vaccine had no appreciable effect on the trend of the pandemic.1

1960s: Early in the 60s the reluctant conclusion about flu vaccine was that there was little progress to be reported. A severe epidemic in 1962 and 1963 clearly demonstrated the failure of flu vaccine to affect any control over mortality (deaths) related to flu. A medical paper was released questioning whether widespread flu vaccination should be continued without better evidence to justify the major costs to the general public. Despite this failure, annual vaccination campaigns were continued.

1968: In 1968 the CDC performed a randomized double-blind study to determine whether flu vaccine had any effect over morbidity (sickness) and mortality (deaths). The authors of the study concluded that "despite extensive use of influenza vaccines...attainment of [improved morbidity and mortality] has never been demonstrated." Still flu immunization continued.

1976: Then came the 1976 H1N1 swine flu scam, and a large-scale effort was undertaken to vaccinate as many U.S. citizens as possible. The disease never lived up to its hype, but an epidemic of paralytic Guillain-Barre Syndrome affecting those who got the flu vaccine caused the program's cancellation. Guillain-Barre, caused by the flu vaccine, is a disastrous disease that paralyzes and can even kill its victims. In 1977 the CDC concluded that the flu vaccine for "swine flu" was "generally ineffective."2 Yet the annual vaccination campaigns were continued.

1995: In 1995 a major FDA review acknowledged the scarcity of randomized trials and warned about serious methodological flaws in many flu vaccine studies.3 In other words, there was not enough science, and the science that was presented was rubbish. Yet the annual vaccination campaigns were continued.

2000: In 2000 the CDC performed a randomized placebo-controlled trial and found that "vaccination [when compared to placebo] may not provide overall economic benefit in most years."4 Yet the annual vaccination campaigns were continued, even into 2004 when the AAP (American Academy of Pediatrics) recommended annual influenza immunization for young children, household contacts, and healthcare providers.

2005: In 2005 a study covering all flu vaccine data over 33 flu seasons failed to uncover any reduced rates of flu sickness and death as a result of flu vaccine. In fact, it did discover that in the 80s and 90s, "flu sickness and death among seniors rose, even as senior vaccination rates quadrupled."5 The study authors state that based on the very best data, seniors were more sick with more vaccinations. And they add that the total number of deaths that occurred in seniors directly related to the flu were, at best, probably the "same as what would have occurred had no vaccine been available."5

Today: The vaccine scam is worse than ever with ever expanding vaccination coverage recommendations. Commercials hound you about the importance of getting your flu shot. Some physicians continue to get news coverage with their statement that anyone who does not get a flu shot is a fool. The AAP recommends mandatory flu vaccination of healthcare providers. And this has even gone farther, meaning that doctors and health workers could be fired for not getting vaccinated.

The Costs of the Flu Vaccine

No one ever mentions the horrifying 1976/77 flu vaccine-induced Guillain-Barre Syndrome disaster -- even while thousands of its victims remain in a wheelchair to this day. No one mentions that this syndrome is still being caused today by flu vaccine. And surely no one mentions that the U.S. Vaccine Court -- which almost no one even knows exists and may be the most difficult court on earth to win a case -- has paid out more than $3.5 billion (in taxpayer money) to victims of vaccine injury -- mostly due to flu vaccine.

The truth is that our technology is not capable of making an effective and safe flu vaccine -- try as we may. But there is so much money to be made with vaccines that the "importance of flu shots" has now superseded many medical and social problems that are truly serious -- like obesity, diabetes, heart disease, illiteracy, high school dropout rates, etc. This is the real, true, sordid history of the flu vaccine, and it is very unfortunate.

Do You Want to Roll the Dice?

You can be smarter than all this. The evidence is clear. The flu vaccine is not effective and it carries inherent dangers. Whether you get a shot or not is up to you. Just know that each time you get a shot you are rolling the dice. Why would you want to do that?

Instead use our protocols that include phytoceuticals, including thymus gland extract, real vitamin C complex which includes vitamin P, vitamins A and D, and many other immune enhancing nutrients, along with the most fantastic antimicrobials that kill bacteria, viruses, and even fungi where they live -- in your throat, sinuses, bronchi, and lungs -- quickly, effectively, and with out any side effects.

Simply follow the protocols in my article, How to Prevent and Kill Colds, Flu, Sinusitis, Bronchitis, and Pneumonia. It will take you step by step through this year's colds and flu season, and all subsequent colds and flu seasons, so you can finally beat these scourges, get well quickly, and stay well. Move up to the future. Move up to pragmatic and phytoceutical medicine at its best. Move up to relief, and to victory over the bugs that cause colds, flu, sinusitis, bronchitis, and pneumonia. This is the future of health care. And if you would like to research this history for yourself, you'll find it in Health Alert, and in the article, "Flu Vaccine for All: A Critical Look at the Evidence." Medscape, Dec. 21, 2015, written by medical people about their own flu vaccine scam.
